Heli Corner

Welcome to Uncle Joe’s Heli Corner, this column is devoted to the on going love of the rotary flight. I’m your host Joseph Dantonio; my love of r/c hobby was stirred from a mall show by a local club in 1982. Shortly after I was flying planes, a year later I was bedazzled and amazed at the flying machines called helicopters. Soon I was the proud owner of an American Revolution “Commander.” Today, it’s Raptors & T-Rex in my hanger and still having fun. I still have my MiniBoy and Crickets on the shelf waiting for a clear day. In addition I host “Uncle Joe’s Heli night” every Thursday night at the MARS club in Zelienople Pa and the annual fun fly “Uncle Joe’s Heli Bash.” You can get details on the fun fly on the runryder web site.

One of the all time questions I’m asked is “What can I do from keep from crashing my Helicopter?” The late Walt Schoonard of Miniature Aircraft had the best answer, “Dust it off, bag it up and place it on a shelf.” If your going to fly r/c heli’s hitting he ground is emanate. When fate says its time to rebuild your machine is left up to the wind. It’s been my experience the joys and accomplishments outweigh the crash. The intrigue of rotary flight and getting all those nuts and bolts flying is why we love the hobby.

A quick note, have you had the chance to fly the Eflite Micro CX? This little sweetie’s flight profile is quite stable. I find it a great beginner machine and tons of fun to the seasoned flyer. I think it’s best quality is it’s a chopper for anyone, even the airplane guy. If you’ve ever flown an Air Hogs Havoc helicopter, you’ll know you’re not in complete control. Always spinning out of control and almost no forward flight

The MCX comes complete in the box RTF with transmitter or if own a Spektrum radio, the Bind-N-Fly version. (No Tx in the box) Controls are complete with full cyclic, throttle, and yaw function. These little beauties are flight ready right out of the box, just charge and fly. This means you can actually fly forward and around the room. I’m in love with try landing on furniture, TV, and any other place I think I can turn into a heli-pad. The MCX is best flown indoors or on no wind days outside. I like thrilling customers in the shop flying around the planes hanging from the ceiling then catching it in mid-air. Then to their amazement I park it in a hover and set the transmitter down. If you’re in the shop ask for a demo or even a hovering lesson.

In the articles to come I be talking about products, set-ups, and any other topics that come to mind or requested. Feel free to send e-mail and Thank You for visiting J&C Hobbies web site.

Happy Crashing, Uncle Joe
